RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS
Passed by Congress September 25, 1789. Ratified December 15, 1791. The first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution, form the Bill of Rights.
Amendment II
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE
In 1776, America's Founding Fathers drew up a "Declaration of Independence," that ended our political ties to Great Britain. The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson; it outlines the people's rights, what government's role is and where it derives its powers from:
We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness--That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed.
The Founders declared that we are all created equal, that we are defined by the rights we are born with, that these rights are not given to us by the government. Our rights include the pursuit of happiness--to live our best lives as long as we respect the rights of others to be able to do the same. Also, the Founders declared that the governments are created by we the people to secure our rights. Whatever powers a government has are not "just" unless they come from us, we the people.

It is our responsibility to make sure our local, state, and federal elected government officials know where we stand on the issues of protecting our Second Amendment Right.
